1. Logistics
Those arriving at the airport (MUC), please make your way via train to "Bayrischzell" (unless scheduled for the bus from Munich).

You need to change at station "Donnersbergerbrücke" (platform 2).  Duration 2:15 hrs, costs approx. 25€ one way. Information is available here (in English also):

CAREFUL! The train might have to parts and only one part goes to Bayrischzell! Make sure you are sitting in the right part. Ask other passengers!

If you follow signs to the trains at Munich Airport there is a helpdesk for train travels.

In Bayrischzell you will be picked up and accompanied to the hotel. From Sunday 15:25 there will be a pickup service at Bayrischzell every hour. Contact phone numbers will be provided shortly before the school.

The phone number of the Berghotel Sudelfeld is: +49 8023 81990 (just for emergencies).

Transport from Munich downtown will be possible (limited number). The meeting point is the parking area (North side) of our Department at Theresienstrasse 41 in Munich. Allocation based on your feedback.

Those who arrive early at MUC could either make their way to the Department for the transport by van (please notify!) or go directly to Bayrischzell and hang out there until we pick them up after 15:25. Bayrischzell is a pictoresque small town. Transport back to Munich on Friday afternoon will be organized during the meeting.

2. Computer practicals.
The Winter School will have a strong practical part and we expect that participants bring their own laptops.  For the Programming Practicals we will use the free Python distribution Anaconda. Please go to for the installation instructions. Please do the installation before and report back if everything is OK or if there are problems. For ML specific software we will get in touch shortly before the meeting.

3. Winter sports
If you plan to be outside and do winter sports in the lunch break please bring appropriate clothing (e.g., gloves, anorak, waterproof trowsers, cap, etc). Also as this year we are more please be prepared to walk to the ski rental place by yourself. Bring shoes with which you can walk on compact snow for a few hundred metres. Temperature might still be below freezing. The hotel is approx at 1000m altitude. There have been big changes to the Sudelfeld ski area. There is a new rental service and I strongly urge you to book the ski equipment in advance! This speeds up getting to the slopes on Monday.

If you are an absolute beginner we offer free ski lessons on Monday. Usually with this kick-off you can ski yourself in the beginners area for the rest of the week. The winter school ends Fri lunch  time so it makes sense to rent the equipment Mon-Thu

Will be available at the hotel free of charge.
